Hyundai has unveiled the Initium, a concept vehicle previewing the successor to the hydrogen-powered Nexo, set for release in the first half of 2025. The Initium features a new “Art of Steel” design language, integrating elements from the electric Ioniq 5 and the ICE-powered Santa Fe. Key design highlights include boxy LED graphics, pronounced skid plates, and 21-inch aero-optimized wheels.

The Initium is powered by a fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) powertrain generating 201 hp (150 kW), with large hydrogen tanks providing a range of over 650 km (404 miles), an improvement over the Nexo’s 161 hp and 612 km range. The Initium will also be able to use its fuel cell to power household appliances and personal devices through the V2L feature. While the interior details are not yet revealed, Hyundai promises a spacious cabin designed for families, complete with ample second-row legroom and a large rear door for easy access.

Safety features include nine airbags and a robust chassis with a “multi-skeleton structure” for enhanced protection. The Initium aims to position Hyundai as a leader in hydrogen energy, combining performance with sustainability in the SUV market.
