My Car is Cuter Than Yours: GWM Ora 400 Review

The GWM Ora is an impressive addition to the electric vehicle market in the Philippines, offering a blend of cutting-edge technology, practicality, and retro-inspired design. Boasting a design that will appeal to those looking for a vehicle that will stand out, and of course a cute-sy design, the Ora 400 definitely fits the bill. I definitely can say that I was the cutest and prettiest car on the road while driving the Ora 400. Driving around this model, especially with the stickers on this one, I had people asking me what car and where they could find one. It definitely will catch a lot of attention on the road.

Aside from the striking goodl looks, one of the Ora’s most significant strengths is its range, with the vehicle offering over 300 km on a single charge. Powered by a 48.7 kWh battery, the Ora is more than capable of handling daily urban commutes and short trips without needing frequent recharging. I barely had the need to recharge in the week that I had this vehicle. This driving range is well-suited for city environments, where charging infrastructure is often more readily available. I went to an SM Mall to charge, while they didn’t have the fastest charging station, I was able to top up a significant amount, around 30% in the hour and a half I was at the mall. However, highway driving may slightly reduce this range, given the increased energy consumption at higher speeds.

The vehicle’s powertrain is designed for responsive performance, delivering the typical instant torque that is characteristic of electric motors. The Ora’s electric motor produces 63 kW (approximately 85 hp), which allows for smooth acceleration and an efficient driving experience. Honestly, you won’t feel the “bitin” feeling when driving this car, I was able to overtake and push the car whenever I wanted to. In terms of driving dynamics, the Ora is nimble, making it well-suited for tight urban environments. The vehicle’s suspension system, however, can feel slightly firm, especially over rough or uneven road surfaces, though this is typical of many small EVs designed for handling rather than comfort.

Inside, the GWM Ora’s cabin features a clean, minimalist design that emphasizes modern technology and user convenience. The interior includes faux leather and suede upholstery, offering a premium feel. The dashboard is dominated by a 10.25-inch touchscreen, which controls the majority of the vehicle’s functions, including media, navigation, and climate control. The system is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for seamless smartphone integration. Though I have to point out that the Android Auto experience was a hit and miss, my phone would sometimes disconnect and the touchscreen wouldn’t be responsive until I disconnected my phone. Apple Carplay was very smooth on the other hand. Space at the back as ample as well, it could fit both of my kids with space to spare for things and knickknacks inside the car. For more cargo though you can fold the rear seats to fit larger boxes and bags.

Safety is a top priority for the GWM Ora, as it comes equipped with a suite of advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS). These include features such as seven airbags, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and forward-collision warning. Cameras all over the vehicle allowed me to always be aware of what was around me. The vehicle also benefits from a five-star ANCAP safety rating, reflecting its strong crash protection and driver safety technology. The car’s ADAS systems are responsive, providing added peace of mind for urban driving and long-distance journeys.

Overall, the GWM Ora represents an appealing choice for those seeking an affordable and technologically advanced electric vehicle. With its competitive range, responsive electric powertrain, solid safety features, and modern interior, the Ora is an excellent option for city dwellers looking for an efficient and eco-friendly mode of transport. While the ride quality may be firm the Ora’s combination of style (especially the Cinamonroll stickers), performance, and value make it a strong contender in the rapidly growing EV market.
