LTO Reports Over 20% Rise in Apprehensions

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has intensified its efforts to ensure safer roads, reporting a 20.75% rise in apprehensions this 2024 compared to last year. A total of 639,323 motorists were flagged for various violations, signaling the agency’s commitment to stricter road safety enforcement.

LTO Chief Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza III credits the surge to enhanced strategies, including increased visibility of enforcers in collaboration with the PNP and local governments. In 2023, 529,439 violations were recorded, marking a significant jump in 2024.

Notably, LTO-Calabarzon led the charge with 109,159 apprehensions—a staggering 144.11% increase from 2023. Meanwhile, the Cagayan Region followed with 70,855 cases, and LTO-Mimaropa reported a 120.76% uptick, apprehending 31,081 motorists.

In addition to fines, 29,709 vehicles were impounded in 2024, reflecting a 21.93% increase from the 24,366 impounded last year. Mendoza praised the dedication of enforcers, many of whom worked late-night shifts to uphold traffic regulations.

“This should remind motorists that we are serious about enforcing traffic laws. We will continue these aggressive operations to ensure road safety for everyone,” Mendoza said.

The LTO’s efforts highlight the growing emphasis on accountability and discipline on the road, aiming for a safer driving culture nationwide.
